The Rainbow Bird

My first mini-comic~!

Finally done. Thank you, Jim Higgins, for teaching me and all the good advices he gave me. It was definitely new experience for me. It took me lots and lots of time and efforts, but it was really fun. I also learned a lot about comics by actually making one. I will continue doing it later on. So, I hope you will enjoy reading it. :)

"Can somebody, please, shut up that damn coyote!"

Cliff Falling

Here are two CG animations I did this semester for my CG Animation class. This assignment is to figure out a way to animate Moom dumping off the cliff. So, I animated Moom scared of the height and ended up falling off the cliff.

Sea Wave

An other layouts of using curve-linear line but dynamic. When I heard curve-linear line and dynamic, I immediately thought about sea wave. The sea can be peaceful and dangerous. I have good feelings for this one. When I drew it, I also went fluently.

Moon Night

This week we asked to do a layouts of diagonal lines but peaceful feeling. I didn't like how this one turned out. It kind of meet the requirements, but it loses the attraction for me.

Suitcase Girl

I got the word "stable" for this week's layouts class, so I thought of trees. It's Autumn time now and I really liked the colors of autumn leaves. The leaves have such warm and rich colors and gives me the feeling of  happy holiday time. Thus, I choose the autumn forest for the girl to went on her journey.

Visual story telling for layouts. We asked to design a room for a character, so I designed this room for my film character. I think he looks good in his dinosaur pajama.

Bird vs Worm

In this layout assignment, we were asked to do "a bird of struggling to get a worm from under a rock."I use the same design elements of size and shape differences and simple vs complex. I also place the bird character against a simple sky to have a better vision of the character and its movement.

Mountain Goat in Jungle

This is a layout of a lost mountain goat in a jungle. I place the main character more towards left side of the frame. When I drew it, I think of different size and volume (large, medium, small) to break the space, as well as straight verses curve and simple verses complex. These are design elements that Dan taught us, and I hope I can carry on to the rest of my designs.

Perspective Drawing

Here are some of the drawings from Perspective I class.

Some Old Watercolor Painings

These watercolor paintings were painted during my first watercolor class in PCC. I always like the look of watercolor painting, especially the watercolor backgrounds in films. Never paint before, but I got addicted to it after got a chance to learn and try in the watercolor class. CalArts spring semester is almost over, I plan to practice my painting skills and do more watercolor paintings during this following summer.

"Milk" - My First Year Film

The first film ever I made in my life! I'm so happy that I made this far. It was great experience. I just want to say it worth to try it myself. I learnt a lot about animating, story telling, compositing, and all the detail about how to make a short film. On the other hand, I also saw lots of shortage in me that I need to improve, like better character design, animation, and etc. Now, I'm ready to learn more and certain that I could make a better film next year!
